President Obama created Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument on August 24, 2016, but Mainers had been hiking, paddling, and skiing in the region for generations. When I first climbed Deasey Mountain fifteen years ago, there was a well-established trail up the mountain from the east. The Seboeis and East Branch Rivers have been paddled for centuries by the Penobscots and river drivers. Now these lands and waters have been preserved forever.
In my slideshow, I’ll be discussing hiking and paddling routes in and around Katahdin Woods and Waters. Where to go for a family outing. Where to get lost for a week. Where to find wildlife. Where to see spectacular scenery. Where your favorite spot is.
I’ll bring copies of my five hiking guides for sale and discuss my latest book projects.
